What’s up with the guitar?
Update starting in 2025 we are playing as a four pice now and not using this setup anymore.
The guitar rig started as a standard guitar to pedal to guitar amp setup.
Next we got the idea to use an aby pedal to split the signal to both a guitar amp and to an octave pedal then a bass amp.
Now this gave us the low end but the treble coming out of the bass amp and that was not quite right. We tried to remedy this with an eq pedal with everything over a certain frequency turned all the way down.
While playing a show in Tacoma Washington we starting talking about the guitar rig with someone and they mentioned how our setup reminded them of another two piece band by the name of Local H.
I looked them up and their guitar setup was an inspiration. They wire a bass pickup under the low strings and send it to its own output jack. This essentially turns the guitar into two instruments.
I decided to sacrifice a Squier Jagmaster for an experiment and after soldering in the new parts and hacking away the old, the result was better than expected.
Addendum: Always ready for the eventuality of a string breaking in the middle of a set, another guitar was necessary.
Using different pickups and different pickup placement we got backups using a Squier Jazzmaster and an Epliphone sg.
Update:
Now the dual output jacks are doing the work the aby pedal was doing so it was sitting unused. This seemed like a waste so might as well put it in the guitar chain and use two guitar amps. Update 2:
A toy robot ( Robie Sr.) modded as a guitar amp, created as an art project, during a boring week in winter, somehow made its way in the mix as well.
